Keratin is in a lot of hair straightening products it is called brazilian blowout. This product turns curls in to straight hair for months. It is used in salons and you can buy it in the stores now. Recently a hairstylist had problems breathing and had nose bleeds and complained to the OSHA. The OSHA discovered that the product contains toxic carcinogen formaldehyde. Even though the product says it is formaldehyde free it has methylene glycol which turns into formaldehyde when mixed with water. When it is dries with the blow dryer it turns back into formaldehyde fumes which can be inhaled easily. According to the U.S. food and drug administration a product is safe to use if it has less that 0.2% of formaldehyde. this has also been linked to leukemia and throat cancer. Now that they found out the dangers of this they have made a "Brazilian blowout-zero" which is a plant based alternative.
