A Disease known as Goss's wilt has cut the corn yields in half. This disease is still spreading and it's reaching Louisiana. A plan Pathologist estimated that about 10% of the corn yields will fall do to Gloss. The plant is caused by bacterium with the formidable name Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. nebraskensis. When a plant is hit by heavy weather the bacteria enters the plant and infects the vascular system wich makes brown and black freckles in the plant. The disease may or may not kill the plant but farmers who haven't seen this disease before it is disconcerting. About 90% of the corn seeds we grow here are engineered in a laboratory.
